Booby Grace Putter

I just got a Bobby Grace Triumph putter. My initial reaction is really good. I normally do not like the grips that manufacturers use but their grip is really comfortable and fits my hands very nicely. The balance of the putter is great, I was playing inside (Too cold in Chicago to go outside) and found it very easy to take the club away and swing back through keeping the putter head online and on target.

Will let you know more when I have a chance to putt for real.

The Start of the 2010 Golf Season...

OK, call me crazy, we just got about a foot of snow and I am now gearing up for the 2010 golf season. This happens every year around this time. I can hear my clubs rattling in the basement with muffled sounds of, "Let me out, Let me out." I go and check on them to reassure them that it won't be too much longer.

In January in Orlando, FL the PGA Merchandise Show is held. It is quite difficult for me to get there, work seems to get in the way. But, we do have a good golf show every February in Chicago.

This is the start of my golf season and golf planning. I look forward to going to see new equipment, new training aids, some old friends, and much more . I start thinking about getting into "golf shape" so I am ready to play on a moments notice.

This year is going to be a bit special because I am taking my daughter. She is still in the early learning stages of golf, but I know she will have a good time. And besides, it is a great way to bond and talk about things I enjoy that I trust will be someday things she enjoys.

I have already printed the list of exhibitors and have contacted some to introduce myself. I have
found this is a great way to find out about products that would be important to include on our web sites. I hope to have my daughters web site ready in the Spring with some of the items we will see at the show.

With the http://www.weekend-golfer.com web site I try to find the best and most interesting products from the show to highlight. Some years are better than others and year year I don't see some of the brand names I am found of on the exhibitor list. I know some have gone out of business and hope others are just late in registering.

I will do my best to have items for all of our sites listed as soon as possible after the show. So if you are looking for what is new please check out each site.

Here they are for you;
http://www.weekend-golfer.com
http://www.senior-golfer.com
http://www.4wedges.com and
http://www.thelongputter.com.

My daughters web site is going to be called - http://www.from-the-ladies-tee.com. Please take a look at that for ideas for the lady golfer in your life.

Check back for our comments about the Chicago Golf Show, here is their web site - http://www.chicagogolfshow.com.

Golf Research in Play -- Golf Clubs That Perform and at a Great Price

We weren't sure what to expect from the Golf Research in Play golf clubs when we first found their web site. We certainly were more than a bit skeptical that the clubs would perform as advertised especially at the price they were asking for them. The images of the clubs truely looked great on their web site. We are firm believers that one gets what they pay for. (There are instances when we sometimes don't, but that might be our fault.) Or more simply, make sure the money spent is enough but not too much for what you are getting.

When we first contacted G.R.I.P. all they offered were hybrids, wedges, and a putter. They have since grown to now offer a line of irons, fairway woods, and a driver. They must be doing something right to be expanding so effectively. We couldn't beleive we would be able to talk about them in a positive manner.

We have played with the wedges, hybrids, and fairway woods. (We haven't play with the putter because we use a long putter.) We are extrememly pleased with the clubs. They each have a nice appearance when standing over the ball. The hybrids and the fairway woods have a nice blue color that seems in instill a calming effect. But most important the clubs worked and worked well, we had not trouble getting the ball airborn with either the hybrid or the fairway wood. Probably most surprising was our change-of-mind about the fairway woods. Whether out of the rough or from the fairway we were able to make solid contact and enjoyed the high ball flight, soft landing and the distance we got.

We didn't like the blue grips that came with the clubs, but we typically don't like anyones stock grips. But at the same time we have to comment that their clubs did have a soft feel to them and we did not have any real negative things to say about them when one of our rounds was played when it rained. So the grips worked well, but just not what we are used to playing with. It's just a personal hangup.

G.R.I.P. has invested quite a large amount of energy into the research of their clubs and at the same time are working different marketing channels to promote the clubs while keeping the marketing expenses at a minimum. Certainly a different approach from the tactics of the larger club manufacturers.

Anyone looking for a quality golf club should take the time to take a look at the clubs G.R.I.P. has to offer. A solid golf club, nice looking and at a great price. Anyone who just wants to buy the "Big Name" golf club should stay away. We have found that the least expensive always isn't inferior and the most expensve isn't always the best. We have found the the blues jeans offered at Sam's Club fit us better and wear better than those made by the brand names available for two or three times the cost.

For a small investment in your golf game you could truely be surprised and pleased with the G.R.I.P. clubs and in turn ordering more to fill out your set. We recommend these clubs and have them in our golf bag. We feel comfortable suggesting you really give them a try.

Article Summary: Highly recommended. Check out the Golf Research in Play website for more infromation.

Going The Distance, But No More...

I remember growing up and playing golf with my grandfather. I remember how he always took great care of his equipment cleaning the clubs after every shot and then again when we returned home. He was always ready to play and his clubs were spotless.

I really enjoyed playing with him and I also enjoyed hitting plastic golf balls in the backyard. I would go the the end of the yard and he would be close to the house. With plastic balls I could easily hit the house and have the balls bounce back to him using an 8 iron.

Gramps played using his favorite club, a 7 iron. I would hit the ball over his head and it would hit the house and bounce off of the patio and back into the front of the yard. He would then have to walk over to the ball. Sometimes to the left, sometimes to the right. I wasn't the best at hitting the ball to him.

Maybe my memory has faded a bit over time but it seemed as though each of his shots landed at my feet. I never had to walk more than a step or two. Every shot right at the target, not too short, not too far. Every shot.

Thinking back now I know I didn't capture the importance of what he was doing. While I was trying to hit the ball over his head I never practiced with the focus on hitting the target. It wasn't until some time after he no longer was around that I thought back about our afternoon sessions and then understood what he was trying to teach me - by example.

Each shot he hit was getting the ball to the hole or target. Not too short, not too far. Every shot was an example of getting the ball close to the hole. Going the distance, but no more...

The Weekend-Golfer Story

It was my wifes idea. I wish I could take the credit but I can't. It seems like it was a life time ago and I remember her telling me to create a golf related web site. Well, I can tell you this, when my wife says I should do something golf related there are two things I don't do.

I Don't Ask Any Questions And I Don't Say, "Huh."

I remember that I wanted to be a little, OK maybe a lot different from the other golf web sites. There are a ton of web sites about golf so I had to really try to stand out to be different. One thing that I did notice was the repetition and the sameness from site to site. That made me think that to stand out I needed to not have the same things all of the other sites had.

The http://www.weekend-golfer.com web site is created.

So the journey began. I started looking for quality products to introduce and try to promote to my soon vast quantity of visitors. You know that really wasn't too hard. I found all kinds of equipment, training aids, instructional products and more. Now that I had a list I had to figure our of to get the product so I could write a review and post the information on the web site.

Luckily, that process of getting products was not too hard. There are a lot of golf products that need to be promoted and by having a golf web site was another way for the manufacture to market their merchandise. I did find out over time that like most things they just did not work as expected. I kept looking and looking but the process began to pay off and our list of products began to grow and make my web site have the content I was looking for.

The Long Putter

I have met some really great people along the way and I am are lucky to say they are our friends today. My brother-in-law introduce me to a top amateur golfer who had written a couple of golf books. One of them was on how to use a long putter. To make a long story short, we ended up doing a complete update the the book "The Long View of Improved Putting." I was even able to contribute a couple of chapters in the book. From there I created the web site - thelongputter.com. If you want to improve your putting you might want to check it out.

If You Build It They Will Come...

Remember that line from the movies? To our surprise and amazment it was working. Our visitor count was growing. The web sites were getting clicks. But what next? what else could I do that would make sense and keep the visitors coming and coming back. I knew that the web site had to be kept up to date and that it needed to have new and good content all of the time. Then it came to me. The long putter site was doing very nicely, what about another niche site, what about wedges. That was it, a web site only about the four wedges.

Four Wedges

To compliment and add to the information on weekend-golfer.com and thelongputter.com we created http://www.4wedges.com. A web site that only targets the pitching wedge, the gap wedge, the sand wedge, and the lob wedge. Again I wanted to maintain the same goals for 4wedges.com - quality items and content that you find find on every other golf web site.

The Visitors Keep Coming

Now with three web sites the activity level is keep me busy. Constantly searching for quality content, trying to test the products that were sent for review, trying to play a few rounds of golf each summer and keep up with our full time career. It was a challenge and after a while it was beginning to get a bit "old." Then it came to me, another niche web site. This was one that I certainly would be able to relate to maybe better that the others.

Senior-Golfer.com

Being a baby boomer I fall into the category of senior golfers. This would be perfect! A web site that would only target the very large group of senior golfers. I knew all about the challenges and troubles faced, I am a senior golfer. The web site was created - http://www.senior-golfer.com.

They visitors are still coming and I am having more fun than I care to write about. I wish you would come take a look at any of the web sites. Once there drop me a note, I would love to hear from you. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help in your golf game. I might not have the answer but I know the answer is out there and I can help you find it.
